Who This Mode Is For
Not every connection needs to hide from an actively hostile network. Sometimes you just want a fast, private connection on a network that isn't inspecting or interfering with your traffic in the first place — home broadband, an unrestricted office, a hotel or campus network that doesn't care what you're doing, just that you're doing a lot of it.
AstriaVeilLink-4 is tuned for exactly that: maximum speed with full encryption still fully intact. Streaming in high quality, video calls that don't stutter, large downloads that finish quickly — this is the mode built for performance. Our recommended starting point is actually AstriaVeilLink-5, which is even faster — reach for AstriaVeilLink-4 as your second choice if -5 ever doesn't connect cleanly on your network.
What You're Not Giving Up
Speed doesn't mean weaker protection. Your traffic is still fully encrypted end to end through our own AstriaVeilLink protocol — you're simply not paying the extra overhead that our privacy-tier modes accept in exchange for deeper concealment. On a network that isn't actively looking for VPN traffic, that overhead buys you nothing, so AstriaVeilLink-4 skips it and puts the difference into throughput.
When to Use Something Else
If you're on a network that's known to actively interfere with encrypted connections — some workplaces, institutions, or regions — AstriaVeilLink-4 isn't the right tool. Step down through AstriaVeilLink-3, then -2, then -1 only as needed. Save AstriaVeilLink-4 for networks you already know are open, and remember AstriaVeilLink-5 is worth trying first.
Switching to AstriaVeilLink-4
Open Settings → Connection type in the app and select AstriaVeilLink-4. It takes effect the next time you connect. If AstriaVeilLink-5 doesn't connect cleanly on your network, this is the next mode to try.
