AstriaVeilLink-2: One Step Up From Our Last Resort

For situations where anonymity matters most, without going all the way to our slowest mode. Try this before dropping to AstriaVeilLink-1.

Who This Mode Is For

Some situations call for the strongest privacy guarantees we can offer, even on a network that isn't necessarily hostile — sensitive work correspondence, research you'd rather not have associated with your identity, or simply a personal decision that anonymity matters more than anything else this session. AstriaVeilLink-2 is built for exactly that: maximum privacy and protection, for the moments when it matters most.

It sits right above AstriaVeilLink-1, our last resort — try AstriaVeilLink-2 first if AstriaVeilLink-5, -4, and -3 aren't holding a stable connection. It's nearly as strong as -1, with noticeably steadier performance, and something to try before you drop all the way down.

What You're Trading Off

Like our other privacy-focused modes, AstriaVeilLink-2 asks more of your connection than our speed-tier modes do. You'll get a step up in speed compared to AstriaVeilLink-1, with headroom to spare exactly where a highly demanding session needs it — but it's still not the mode to reach for if all you want is the fastest possible connection for streaming or downloads.

It's our own protocol end to end, so it doesn't carry a signature that's already been catalogued and blocked elsewhere. This tier exists to protect your data when it matters most, not to circumvent any restriction as such.

Choosing Between AstriaVeilLink-1 and -2

Think of the two as neighbors at the bottom of the ladder. Reach for AstriaVeilLink-2 first if faster modes aren't holding up and what you're doing calls for a strong privacy margin. Only drop to AstriaVeilLink-1 if -2 still isn't enough — it's the true last resort, for networks actively interfering with traffic.

If neither describes your situation, start over at our recommended default, AstriaVeilLink-5, and work your way down only as needed.

Switching to AstriaVeilLink-2

In the app, go to Settings → Connection type and select AstriaVeilLink-2. It takes effect on your next connection. Unsure what to pick? Start with AstriaVeilLink-5 and step down through -4 and -3 first — come back to AstriaVeilLink-2 only if you want that extra margin.
