AstriaVeilLink-1: Our Deepest Privacy Mode

Our last-resort mode — try it only if -2, -3, -4, and -5 don't hold up. AstriaVeilLink-1 trades a little speed for the strongest concealment we offer.

Who This Mode Is For

Most networks leave VPN traffic alone. Some don't. If you're connecting from a workplace, an institution, or a country where network operators actively look for and interfere with encrypted traffic that doesn't look "normal," you need more than ordinary encryption — you need a connection that doesn't stand out in the first place.

AstriaVeilLink-1 is the most cautious of our five connection modes — and our last resort. Reach for it only after AstriaVeilLink-5, -4, -3, and -2 have already been tried and none held up reliably on your network. It's built specifically for that harder environment: places where something on the network is actively trying to notice and block traffic like a VPN's.

What You're Trading Off

Concealment isn't free. AstriaVeilLink-1 asks a little more of your connection than our faster modes do, so expect somewhat lower speeds in exchange for the deepest protection we offer. For streaming a video or downloading a large file on a network that doesn't care about your traffic, this trade isn't worth it — but on a network that's actively hostile to encrypted connections, it's the right one.

This is also our own protocol, not a copy of a widely known one. Filters that have learned to recognize common VPN tools don't have a ready-made signature for it. This tier exists to protect your data on difficult networks, not to circumvent any restriction as such.

When You Don't Need It

If your network doesn't interfere with traffic — home broadband, most public Wi-Fi, an open office network — AstriaVeilLink-1 is more caution than you need. Start with AstriaVeilLink-5, our recommended default, and step down through -4, -3, and -2 only if a network gives you trouble. Save AstriaVeilLink-1 for the ones that still don't hold up after that.

Switching to AstriaVeilLink-1

Open the app, go to Settings → Connection type, and select AstriaVeilLink-1. The change applies the next time you connect. If you're not sure you actually need this level of concealment, start with AstriaVeilLink-5 instead — come back to this mode only if faster ones give you trouble.
